Capabilities
IntroductionAIM is a leading developer of unique state-of-the art gas (and liquid) analyzers, with over 25 years experience supplying on-line analyzers and systems for utility, industrial and recovery boilers, furnaces, kilns, waste incinerators, process emissions, vehicle exhausts, ambient air monitoring, laboratory and specialized applications. [The principals supplied well over 4000 analyzers to American, European, and Asian companies in the 1970's, 80's, and 90's; have supplied OEM systems to Chrysler Corp, Toshiba (Japan), Philips (Netherlands), Honeywell, GE, Measurex, Bovar (Canada), Applied Automation, and Environnement SA (France). AIM offers single or multi-component analyzers or complete systems; as well as an OEM product developed specifically for the application. We produce in-situ across-stream or open-path analyzers, extractive cooled and/or heated analyzers, fiber-optic coupled analyzers, bench-top analyzers and portable, transportable (in vans or trucks), or permanent continuous monitoring & control systems. NDIR SYSTEMSAIM manufactures a patented NDIR analyzer capable of measuring up to 6 gases simultaneously, and up to 10 gases as a special order, with interchangeable measurement modules, further expanding its capabilities. The measurements are made by either GFC (gas filter correlation, for CO, NO, HCI, CH4, N20, etc), or DOAS (differential optical absorption spectroscopy). The system includes either a TE cooled PbSe detector, or PbS detector, with spectral response from the near IR to 5.3u. Measurement sensitivity is limited by pathlength. For extractive systems, we normally supply a compact low volume multipass [White-type] sample cell, and can offer pathlengths from 0.5 cm for liquids, to 100m for measuring gases like HCl, HF, etc. at or below 10mg/m3. A standard 10m cell can be used to easily measure most gases of interest at 100ppm full-scale up to 5000 ppm full-scale. We supply measurement modules tuned to a spectral overtone band for % level measurements; and we offer interchangeable sample cells [such as 2m, 10m and 50 or 100m] when applicable. The analyzer is available in these configurations:
OTHER IR SYSTEMSIn addition to the nondispersive IR analyzers, AIM also offers: Extractive multicomponent FTIR with up to 0.5 cm-1 resolution, measuring from 1.28 to 28.6u, PC controlled, GRAMS 386 spectral analysis software, with complete spectral scans, spectral data storage. Available as:
Dispersive IR, DIR, with PbSe or PbS array detectors... in development stage [see equivalent dispersive UV system below (Model 5000)]. DISPERSIVE UV SYSTEMSAIM has developed and recently applied for a patent on a novel multicomponent dispersive UV [DUV] analyzer measuring from below 200nm to the visible, with an ultra-stable pulsed xenon arc source and a single or dual monochromator, each with a 1024 element CCD array detector, for low ppm and ppb levels of permanent gases such as NO, NO2, NH3, S02, H2S, Cl2, 03 as well as VOCS such as benzene, toluene, xylene, phenols, furans, chlorobenzenes, amines, etc. Again we offer interchangeable cells, either heated or ambient temperature, with PC control. Available as:
SAMPLING SYSTEMSAIM can supply complete sampling systems, including inert [hastelloy, inconel, or even high temperature ceramic] sampling probes, with a heated large surface area ceramic filter, heated teflon lines with blowback, thermo-electric cooler or permeation filter for water removal, or [recommended for reactive gases like HCl, or condensible gases like high boiling hydrocarbons or H20] an all heated system, with heated pump, heated flow meters, and heated sample cell], all mounted in a free-standing 19" air-conditioned indoors [NEMA 12] or outdoor [NEMA 4X] enclosure. Price depends strongly on the length of heated line, stack gas maximum temperature, and stack maximum dust loading. Available as:
MULTIPLEXED SAMPLING POINTSAIM offers the ability to sample multiple points sequentially, quickly in time, with one analyzer/analytical system, either by continuously extracting samples from each point (bypassing those not being measured) controlled by a PLC; or in many applications fiber-optic coupling the analyzers to several points and switching between the fibers. Quartz fibers have good transmission from 220 nm to the near IR, while heavy metal fluoride fibers have good transmission from the near IR to 3.5u COMBINATION IR/UV SYSTEMAIM has configured systems with both an IR and UV analyzer, each multiplexed to one or two sample cells... such as a 4m cell measuring % level C02 and H20,1OW ppm level NOx, SOx, CO, HCl, CH4, NH3, and a 40m cell, measuring ppb levels of benzene, toluene, xylene, chlorophenols, etc. COMBINATION AMBIENT AIR/STACK EMISSIONS MONITORING SYSTEMAIM offers a multicomponent system configured for ambient air quality monitoring but also capable of measuring source level concentrations by incorporating up to three levels of precision successive dilutions to reduce stack/process gas levels down to the lower ambient levels. TRANSPORTABLE SYSTEMSAIM offers systems configured for mounting in a van or other vehicles, or in individual transportable containers (with outer protective covers) for local field connection/ set-up. REMOTE SENSING OF VEHICLE EXHAUSTSAIM is currently undertaking a development and demonstration contract with the SCAQMD [South Coast Air Quality Management District] for the Los Angeles area, for the development of a very fast response [less than 100 msec] multi-component analyzer measuring up to 25 different components remotely in realtime as vehicles pass down the road. This system is intended to be an enforcement tool to verify compliance with emission limits, and may ultimately replace the current periodic garage inspection process. The novel developments are the increased speed of response, large number of important species measured, the development of an open-path multi-pass light projection system for high sensitivity analysis, and the extension of AlM's current dispersive UV technology to similar analyses in the IR. |
